Clutch disc material choice

Looking to replace just the clutch disc on my 428. My flywheel is new as well as pressure plate but I think I smoked it to a glaze on a wheeling trip as it slips bad when I'm on it hard in high rpms.
Is there a performance disc swap that will work for my 11" ,3 finger pressure plate that is better hold than stock that will hold for my 400hp 428 fe??
Trans is a np435, 10 spline.
What material is best?

It's not only material that determines clutch suitability. Rather, the clamping mechanism and clutch disc spring stiffness has to be factored in. For a performance application which includes your 428, opt for a diaphragm-style pressure plate and a Kevlar/organic, semi-metallic, or Kevlar/Kevlar combination.

Btw, if ya smoked yer clutch while wheeling then ya need to get better at gear selection and throttle control. Git yer foot off the man-pedal and quit milking the clutch.

I wouldn't even consider a three-fingered (Borg & Beck) plate for anything with 400 HP or more. With that said, Centerforce probably has the best options in my opinion.

Was first hill and tcase was in 2wd. Smoked it only cause I didn't know.

3 finger is more heavy duty isn't it. Had a diaphram and bent couple of the fins on install.

Nope.

and,

...installation and operation are two differences in wrench-worthiness.

Yeah I was impatient in a late nite thrash to get it together. It's only about a 2 hour job to swap clutches on this truck as being so lifted its at a good height and being divorce tcase I just pull divorce shaft and slide tranny back on crossmember.
Anyway I'm looking into Hays clutches right now.

3 finger , long style pressure plates seem to be the way to go. As those links go its the better hp clutch for competition.

Posted from a Dodge forum.....

"The three fingure clutchs will hold more torque, the diaphgrams will be easier on the left leg. I'd say go three finger if you regularly hitting the strip, diaphgram if you like to drive in parades."

I don't agree with this persons post, but who knows. I have had diaphragm clutches go over center during high rpm launches and the truck just sit there. I have been running the BW Kevlar impregnated\copper clad clutch with long-style 3 finger Pressure Plate and have never had an issue wheeling or launching hard on dry pavement.

I purchased a stainless steel clutch linkage rod from Ebay with "ball's on each end of the rod with a bolt hole drilled in them" that makes the 3 finger PP easy to depress. My wife and kids have no issue with the pedal pressure. I cannot remember what them there "*****" are properly called. They are the same type used in several suspension linkage applications, like a tractors 3 point hitch.

^thanks! That's the response I'm looking for. I'm definitely leaning towards a 3 finger style clutch.
