Engine Advice

I am looking to replace the tired 1974 351W in my 54 with a non-roller 351W out of a 1996 van. I currently have C-6 tranny. I have couple of questions. First is there an easy (i.e. cheap) ay keep the fuel injection. Second, if I go carburated can I use my intake, distributer, fuel pump and timing gear cover off of my 74 351W. If anyone has any experience with the above options I would appreciate your input.

I know the older 351W had a different deck height or something that requires different heads or intakes not sure what year that ended. You should post your question over here also and you may get more responses.

As long as the new engine has a flat tappet cam, all of your parts and pieces should interchange. You will need to add the fuel pump eccentric on the front of the cam timing gear to function the fuel pump. You may also need to use the timing set from the early engine with the eccentric. Check with the parts house folks for interchangeability. For the most part, a 351w is a 351w.

I think your getting the 351C/351M mixed up with the 351W. A 351W is a 351W and parts should interchange. Wayne has the right answer.
