Hi all. I bought a 1960 Style side today. I gave $700.00 for it. 223 engine that's almost as quiet as an electric motor. Puffs a little smoke on cold start. 38,xxx original miles. I am now the second owner. The original owner died several years ago, and his daughter held on to it. He was a mechanic at the local Chevy dealer.
The frame, front axle, rear axle (looks like a 9"?), front and rear leafs, shocks, steering linkage etc is absolutely new looking. The 3spd column shift and linkage is very tight, and it shifts up and down great. The windows and windshield are old and cloudy around the edges, and the weather seals need replaced. It is a radio delete dash. Painted bumpers and grill. Floor pans and rockers are surfaced rusted, but otherwise solid.
The bad: some body repair was done years ago, and has lived it's life. The lower rear of both front fenders were patched with body fill, as well as the cab corners, and the very rear end pieces on either side of the tailgate. The bed sides are solid, with a couple of minor, repairable dents. The bed floor, for some reason has had a piece of sheet metal riveted in, and a hook of some kind is anchored in the center.
The major mechanical issue is the brakes. I think everything will need replaced.
My plans, for now, are to put the truck in the shop this winter, do up the brakes, get all lights working, maybe replace the body rubber and seals, and get it drivable.
So, ANY help, info, and general knowledge will be worth it's weight to me.
