That is one nice sweet truck I'll buy it. Depending on axle ratios, I can get about almost 55mph and mines got a governor set for 3,000rpms. As far as the rims, the fronts are not that much of a problem (if blown they blow into the
spring) its the rears that if blown, they blow out. So the practice is to install on the truck with no air. Wrap chains throught the hand holes then inflate. Not saying its written in stone, but since I had one blow missing me and my son, missing us by a razor blade, I dont go anywhere near any of these things. My
trucks have dayton tubless 11 22.5s thats a good thing. Now my F6 My rear
outside wheels only got about 15lbs in them the inside carrys the weight which isnt much (so its really a four wheel) truck. Reason is F6 is a ton and a half and my F350 is a ton so the F350's got four wheels right. Its only a tool truck with
8- 25- 20's. and a Ford tractor dont weigh anything a car can carry that, I got one too.
My biggest fear with the truck inside the shop; is for one of the rears wheel to deside to blow on a customer no warning thats why
I dont keep air in them. I just think that was a poor design but they did partake in building America didnt they!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm curious (more just morbid interest in the drivetrain combos). Seems to me the ratio of straight 6 to V8 in the F4-F6 truck years 48 -49 is about 7:1... If it is original, odds are you have a 226 L6 in that. Please let us know and yes all the pics in the world if you will. Definitely a handsome lookin rig.

Welcome aboard! That is a great looking truck. I recently experienced the widowmaker wheel issue. T
Curiosity got the best of me when heard all the "stay away from" and"get rid of" words of wisdom, so I decided to take one apart and service it myself. I am no stranger to tube type truck tires, so I thought "what's the big deal?" When I got it apart and began inspecting the design, I wondered who in the world actually thought that was a good idea. They have only a small portion of anything to hold them together. Kinda like a wedge shape. Hard to describe. I decided right then that they would never be on anything of mine. I have heard of them blowing apart just going down the road, and now I see why one could.
Good luck with your new find. You will love it!
