Question Help - spindle removal

I picked up a front Dana 44HD because I needed a spindle. Well it has been sitting for some time and the spindles don't want to come off. So whats the secret to get them off?

Once you take the six nuts off the spindle flange, pop it a few times with a rubber mallet. Do it sideways as if it were a nail you are trying to bend over.
If you don.t have a rubber mallet or a rubber coated deadblow hammer, use a piece of cedar or other soft wood to protect the spindle as you hit it.
It should pop right off.

I've beet the **** out out of both spindles with a rubber mallet, used a block of wood, sprayed them with PB Blaster, tried to break them loose with an air hammer and they are still not budging. So now what? I'm out out of ideas to get them off without damaging them.

This sounds like it wouldnt do anything, but whack the knuckle, not the spindle, a few times with a non-rubber mallet.

You dont have to hit it too hard, but I bet after one or two good whomps, you'll see some movement.

Most of the time when I get one side off, I walk over and the other side is just hanging there.

Is it still stuck to the rotor? If so knock out the wheal studs, i had the same issue and didn't realize that the rotor and spindle are connected with the wheel studs, this is assumeing that you have the rotor and spindle off of the truck.

What you are referring to is the wheelhub and rotor. I have the wheelhubs and rotors off of the spindles. My problem is I can not get the spidles off the knuckles. They are friggen stuck good. I have also hit the knuckles with an 8lb. sledge hammer and still couldn't get them loose. I'm at a loss here.

If this doesn't work then put the heat to the spindle flange then try whacking it.

I got them off finally. I ruined the caliper brackets (actually broke one) but I don't need those anyway. Man what a nightmare that was. I'm so glad that's over with.

Almost a full can of PB Blaster and repeated beating on the back side of the caliper brackets with an 8 lb sledge hammer. Three days and a couple blisters later they're off. Twas not fun!
