torque converter flavor question

I have a 1997 F250 7.3 L truck with an E4OD transmission. I'm dropping it off at the shop this week for a rebuild and was asked what torque converter I preferred. I was given the option of standard, heavy duty and triple lock. I drive the truck 60 miles a day to and from work and will be towing a boat to the coast maybe once a year. The big boat is about 3500 lbs maybe. So what TC in your opinion should I go with. I'm leaning toward the triple lock but is it really necessary or should I go with the heavy duty? (600 dollar question)

Thanks for any an all comments

Scott

That's going to be hard to answer what brand are these converters he is asking about? In reality you can get a roadrunner tc that will fit your needs perfect for 450 bucks

Billet torque converter

It is a #3-B. Triple-Disk E4OD, 4R100, 5R110W Billet torque converter with a triple clutch built for Power Stroke diesels...It may be overkill for the amount of towing I do. Really not sure. On the other hand if I have to tow a 3600 lb boat for a 600 mile round trip I may need it...?

looking at 1900 base price with standard TC, 2200 with heavy duty (may be 2 disk) and about 2500 - 2600 for the billet triple disk...

Seems to be getting charged more than that a basic converter for these trucks are 200 minimum he is getting charged closer to 900-1k for the billet

I may be able to talk him down a little. The price I got was over the phone quote without looking at it. Well see what happens. Is it really worth putting some sort of temp gauge on the transmission to monitor fluid temps for everyday driving and occasional towing? I've never had a known temp issue in the past. This E4OD has 259000 miles on it with a leaking front seal so its time for a trip to the shop.

I would go with perssion machines billet TC.it's the pink colored one put it behind the 97 F350/460ci.and it did just like they said.and when it locked down in 2nd gear it locked down! at the time I was pulling 14K everyday with a stock e4od and 2 tranny coolers.my reason for doing so was slippage and the heat were the two things that I was trying to stop.yes they are spendy but well worth it and the 460 well.....7.3 replaced it and cut the fuel bill in half.

Yep love the 7.3 and towed 14000 lbs with mine as well. It performed admirably with the stock TC. I wouldn't want to tow much more. I towed a 3000 lb trailer and a John Deere 720 diesel tractor with a JD ABH 3 bottom turn plow. It no wonder I need a tranny rebuild...
