EGT sensor/no regen

Morning,

I have a 2008 6.4 with 168,000KM & about 1 month ago I pulled a code P2084 Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 Sensor 2.
I pulled out the sensor it was very dirty, I cleaned it up and put it back (ford recommend). After cleaning the sensor I still had the error code so I deleted it and haven't had a check engine light since.

My question is: I have not gone into regen since, and is it because the sensor is gone and needs to be replaced? And will this effect my fuel economy?

I am new to the diesel world and some of this newer technology so any help will be much appreciated.

It probably has regened and you did not catch it. Don't worry it will regen when needed or at or about 630-650 miles regardless of need.

No lights...drive the truck.

you said you deleted it. did you mean you cleared the engine code or removed the exhaust sensor and been driving it without it in place?

I deleted the code after cleaning the sensor and re-installing it.
Big no no? What would you suggest I do?

Thanks

You are good. Probably had a loose connection and fixed it when you re installed it. Nice save of $60. Cost of new sensor. You prob haven't driven enough for your next regen. If you go through 2 tanks and still no regen then revisit.

Thanks guys, $125 sensor for me here in Canada. I've been through 200L of diesel and I am 100% positive I have not gone into regen. :S

if my conversion is correct 200 liters is like 53 gallons so if your getting better than 11 mpg or 4.67658KM/L you have not driven far enough to hit the fail safe regen

When I had a DPF (not too long ago), I would Regen at least once per tank (about 25 gals). Even if I was doing pure highway driving. He's gone through double the amount and still nothing. I would start getting concerned that something wrong too. But if DPF gets real clogged, and your sensors aren't telling it to regen, then I would think some sort of back pressure code would occur. Keep an eye on it.

Thanks for all the replies, I am getting concerned because I haven't seen a regen in a month or so and honestly not since that sensor code came up. I have been keeping an eye on it and have not see a "fail safe" regen ethier.

I'm starting to think that sensor is bad, anyway to test it? I don't want to throw parts at my truck but it seems like a coincidence once that code came up I have not seen a regen.

You say you are new to diesels and the new technology, so I offer that your truck is cleaning the exhaust and you are just missing it. If you have the correct computer flash the CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER message stays on for about two nano-seconds and is very easy to miss. So, try this: when you suspect it is cleaning push the middle button on the message center, then push the top button. The massage board will cycle through six or seven checks, the last one will be the CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER message. If it's not there it's not cleaning. When cleaning is occurring you will hear a slightly different sound, feel a little less power and may see some smoke. Also, if you will watch the INSTANT MPG message you will se it take a sudden dip of a couple tenths. Of course if you already knew all this please forget I said anything. Hope this helps.

Buy a CTS or other monitoring add-on and it will tell you when the truck is in regen.

The CTS edge has a little red "R" to tell you it's in regen mode and of course you can set one of the several layouts to show the status of regen

I know this doesn't answer your sensor question but I agree with the recommendations of the GSchretter above. Get a monitor, the Edge Insight CTS is just that and it permits you to watch a lot more vitals than the simplified gauge cluster on your dash. It isn't a tuner so you don't have to worry about warranty issues. It's a bit pricey, ScanGauge makes a monitor that does almost the same stuff, just with less fluff than Edge's product and its quite a bit less $.

Back to your regens concern, can you tell us how many miles (or kms) you've driven since you believe you had the last regen, that way we don't have to guess or calculate with assumptions about your fuel economy?
