Would this be a good trade?

You realize if you buy a diesel and something breaks it cost way more to fix than a gas engine. Unless your hauling giant loads and love the stink of diesel you'd be crazy to give up your newer vehicle with half the mileage for that engine. Of coarse that's just my opinion. Research- research- research on the problems of that engine, then make up your mind.

I would be using the diesel to haul some heavier things that i can't haul with my truck on a couple occasions a year. I know that diesels cost more to maintain, and that doesnt bother me that much. The 7.3 is a very strong engine so hopefully the maintenence would not be a big problem until it needs to be rebuilt. The main reason i would consider this trade is because i hate the fact that my truck is a crewcab, and i need a longer bed.

I want a f250 for more payload, we have a pellet stove and we get our pellets by the ton, and i dont like putting that much weight in my truck. Also i dont like the crewcab because i get stuck driving people arround a lot.
The f250 is straight piped with dual stacks, so people wouldnt want to ride in it. (hopefully)

As a SuperDuty owner I will tell you that you are crazy to be trading for a SuperDuty unless you REALLY REALLY need one.
They ride horrible empty, they take a 40 acre field to turn around in. And remember, diesel repairs are not measured in hundreds of dollars, they are measured in the THOUSANDS. Likewise, Oil is not measured in quarts, its measured in gallons, as in three of them.
Thanks!

Bottom line, if you aren't hauling that ton of pellets at least once a week, you don't need a 3/4 ton. Tires are expensive, brakes are expensive, etc. Big 3/4 ton and larger trucks are work trucks. They are designed to be worked, and if you aren't working them, they cost too much to maintain.
This trade would be greatly in the other guys favor. Why do you think he's wanting to trade down to a smaller gas powered truck? Its because unless you need to use a 3/4 ton truck every day, they aren't worth having.
I would haul a ton of pellet in my Aerostar, your F150 is more than adequate.
