276 running good first fire today

went over to Mike's and fired up the rebuilt flatty. I planned to fire it up with stock carb and loadomatic. The loadomatic was a loadocrap though. I had another charlie NY 94 and a bubba chevy dist so thats what we used. Around here apparently the flatheads get dry fired. No water initially, don't ask me why. She touched right off after we changed out the ignition switch. I've been wondering why I bought a new ignition months ago, but the old one gave out.
frigging had to dremel out the hole though, chinese do pretty close only.
anyway we fired her up. she jumped to life. let her cool down, filled her up with 50/50 and touched her off again. a little idle adjustment and she settled down and purred like a kitten. I had to get back to work and missed the rest.
sounds like I'll be driving her next week. She sounded pretty good with the 77b grind and long tube headers, but honestly its a hunert something and I could barely hear over the big fans Mike had out.
Dave the machinist sold me some joe gibbs break in oil and recommends the 15w 50 hot rod oil for this build because of the 3000ths clearance ross builds into the pistons. Again, its a 8ba .125 overbore and a 4" crank, so 276 ci. I forget to get my video cam out of the trunk so you'll have to take my word for it. The block is that that duplicolor detroit diesel green with a black timing cover and pumps. it looks good with the aluminum heads. the stock intake (for now) is also duplicolor looks good too. New motor mounts seem to make a world of difference. She used to shake my guts out. Now she idles as smooth as glass.

That's great! Lots of people swear by the 276's. Be sure to keep after the torque on the head bolts!

I don't know anything about the loadomatic, but this goes right along with Ross's signature.

FTE Bylaws: Article 7 Section 42.4 Paragraph 2. "All first fires of engines must be accompanied by a video, and posted promptly in the forum." This is a serious breach of FTE rules. Get back out as soon as you can and video the next run. The quicker you do this the less your punishment will be.
