Speedometer/Odometer OOC

When I won't be driving my 95 F150 for an extended period of time, I sometimes pull fuse #8 to keep from draining the battery. Upon reinstalling the fuse last time, my odometer came on then went blank again and since then I have had no speedometer or odometer. I checked the other fuse that's associated with that circuit (#18 I think) and it was good. Does anyone have any idea what else to check? Thanks for any help.

Do you have a meter? I'd pull the gauges out and check for voltage on the PSOM (the Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module) power input. Got power there, PSOM is dead. No power, move downstream to next component and keep checking.

Thanks for the reply Dixie460. I have never had the gauges out. Can you help me on where to check for power to the PSOM? Yes, I have a multi meter.

Check out the schematic below, courtesy of Steve83:

You should have power (with reference to chassis ground) on circuit 54 (Light Green/Violet) and circuit 296 (White/Purple) with ignition switch ON.

This would be on the PSOM connector at the back of the gauge cluster. There's 3 electrical connectors, the PSOM is the small square one in the center.

When removing the gauge cluster, is there a trick for disconnecting the gear indicator cable? I tried searching the forum and didn't find anything that addressed that.

Yeah you just take the column shroud off and disconnect the cable from the shift lever.
