I'm gonna order one soon. I need to get my coolant in check. I need to pick up some test strips too. I've been such a slacker on the coolant since I've had this truck

this is also on my list... I have never tested my coolant in the 2 or so years I have had it... I don't think I have ever taken the cap off...

Order up a penray when needed sca filter 2091 is the number I think I used. It monitors the sca and adjusts it when needed.

My plan is to run the new coolant with the SCAs in it and a straight filter for a little while and then switch to the filter with the SCAs. Just to clean everything out. I've seen some of the pictures others have posted of their filters cut open and it is amazing. I'll do the same for comparison sake.

Update on the water pump job....

Got it all done today and it wasn't too bad. It was the hottest day all year, though and I was straight in the sun from 9am to 2pm before it was all buttoned up and ready to go. I was soaking wet with sweat. The humidity had to be 99.9999999%. I literally think it was condensing on me it was so hot.

Couple of pic's and explanations - This is the coolant I was draining. Not very pretty and really milky like.

I rigged in the flush T right up front since I wouldn't be needing this part of the hose anymore.

After three or 4 buckets full of flushes (not even the original drain - this was what was lurking around the bottom of the bucket.

I couldn't get the plugs out of the block... now I know this is not good, but I just couldn't get those suckers to budge. Maybe on a cooler day with a torch or maybe after some applications of PB blaster, but I was trying to get it done, so I just kept flushing the best I could. I'll have to change the filter a couple times, I think.

Once I had the new unit up it was really pretty easy. I only needed the 2 60mm M8x1.25 bolts and then 1 M8x1.25x110mm. I re-used the others.

A final picture with the filter in place. The 45* fittings really line up nicely, the Dodge lower radiator hose is like it was custom made and there were no leaks.

Just one real problem was the fan clutch. The kit I borrowed from Advanced was so abused that the 47mm wrench was stretched out and tried to round off my clutch nut. A friend had a good set and he brought them over and we got it off. That sucker is a pain in the butt though. The first 1.5-2 hours were really spent screwing around with it. The rest of the job was really a snap. I need a new upper radiator hose and could probably use to replace a few other hoses running down and through the radiator. I need to look into those.

Feels good to do something to really clean up the system though. That filter is going to get seriously messy I think. I'll probably change it in about 2000 miles and throw on another one without the SCAs just to try and get the gunk out since I didn't get the block plugs out.

Looks real good Dan. I don't blame you for not forcing those block plugs. I'd probably change the filter after a couple thousand like you said, then again after a couple more. Then install one for a longer period of time.

Yeah, I just feel like I have all this really nice new coolant in there and its mixing with that nasty old green stuff that was settled in the block. But, it's done now.

I forgot to mention that my temp gauge is now between the O and the R - before it was generally right on the N. Wonder if it will make any difference? Its a 195 tstat. Can't tell what the other was but it might have been a 182 - does that sound right?

Ok, 3rd time typing this (batt died on my jetpack). First version was quite long, its getting shorter..

I had the same situation the first time I switched tstat. Mine was a 182 and I put in a 195, saw the same increase on the dash gauge. I haven't figured out the 182 stat, you are the only other one I've heard of having one. I bought my truck at 3 years old with 70k on it so I originally thought it was original, but I think someone must have changed it.

You are good to go.

Sorry about the jetpack - lol.

I'm just guessing it is a 182 because there is a 6 digit or so number stamped on it and the first 3 are 182. But it sounds like that was the case with the gauge correlation. Thanks

Looks pretty good! I love how that water pump has the filter housing built right in. I plan on changing coolant before winter and hopefully installing a filter. As far as the thermostat I don't know. Mine has a 203 thermostat and my gauge at most is a touch above half but usuly stays around 1/3.

Hopefully the filter will catch all that crap in there.

Honestly dan.I think you only could have gotten the plugs is with the proper square sockets.I bought a set and got the plugs right out of my core engine.I tried without and had no luck.they are almost a nessicity for working on these engines.I have used mine more than I ever would have thought.
..great job on the pump! I'm needing to do a filter somehow...butits gonna wait right now.
