[SOLVED]Carb Throttle Shaft gas leak when turning off engine...

Hi all. Newbie here. 240 inline 6

I've got a Holley 1940 carb and after turning off the engine, leaking gas from both sides of the throttle shaft. Quite a bit.

What I discovered was if after turning off the engine, I immediately pull open the choke (closing the choke plate), the gas leak at the throttle shaft only leaks a few drops and then stops. But when the choke plate is open it starts leaking again.

I'm aware of some of the usual issues to check (fuel pressure, needle and seat, float), but can anyone give an explanation as to why the leak ceases when the choke plate is closed? Oh, and how to fix it would be nice, too...

Thanks!

Update: Problem solved for now. I checked the fuel filter in the fuel pump and discovered some sand-like rust debris settling where the fuel filter can attaches to the pump.

Installed an inline small filter before the fuel hits the pump, and some larger debris was being caught by it after running the vehicle for a short drive.

Realized there must be a lot of crud and junk in the fuel tank, because the small inline filter I put in was catching some rather large pieces of junk.

I then removed the needle seat valve and cleaned that and made sure the needle was moving freely.

Probably will have to clean or replace the fuel tank to get the crud out to eliminate debris clogging stuff up in the carb and causing flooding out the throttle shaft.

Time is money so may just opt for new tank without EEC on it.
