Antifreeze

I know this has been brought up before but exactly what antifreeze should we be running in our trucks? I drained mine and went back with regular green antifreeze is this correct?

You can run the conventional green, you will need to add SCA's and monitor. Many on post E99 rigs run a HD ELC like the "big" trucks to not have to monitor SCA's any longer. Or you can run the ford "gold".

Conventional green is fine to run. However you should really run G-05 in it as that is specifically designed for Fords. Do know you can pick up gallons of it at most O` Reilly Auto Parts for $17.99

Your 2002 came with "gold".

That's G-05.

Green will work, but it sure isn't an "upgrade"

Just for clarification purposes (not to pick nits, my friend) but there is a Ford "Orange" that is very different than what we refer to as the Ford "Gold" (sometimes referred to as "Yellow") G-05 that Ford started putting in the 2002 model year trucks.

Yes, let's call it "gold" instead.

The G-05 is the gold.

Thanks, Stewart. Didn't mean to confuse, and this is an area that often is.

Have edited the above to reflect that.

Be sure to rinse thoroughly, first with tap water, then with distilled, before filling with four gallons of "concentrate" (the full-strength stuff), then "topping off" with more distilled water.

Yes that is fine. Good idea to monitor the SCA levels via test strips and use SCA or precharged filters.

G-05 is actually still used by Dodge, BMW and Mercedes in their vehicles as well. In 2013 IIRC most Ford applications moved onto Orange OAT based coolants.
