Question on value and cruise control...

My mother and father law are back east in Mississippi and we're here in Idaho. There are almost zero 4WD trucks for sale at a decent price out there or in Tennessee where some other relatives live. However they are plentiful out here in Idaho.

I own a 2001 v10. I talked my father down out of the diesel...that was a fun conversation but he's seen the light.

I found a 2002 v10 crew cab out here. 161,000 miles. He was asking $10,200 and came down to $9,500. I think it is worth $8k.

02 Ford F350 Crew Cab Lariat V-10

It needs new plugs...last ones were done at 110k. Needs a new battery...it's stamped 08 and barely starts the truck. Tires are bald. Windshield has a nice chip. Minor dent in the front passenger fender...6 inch crease. 6 disk CD changer is broken...won't suck in disks. Driver's side door looks fine but has a suspicious yellow X painted inside next to the latch mechanism. It has tonneua cover. Bed is not treated. Minor rust on the undercarriage. 4 wheel works. No shake or shimmy to the front wheels. And...the cruise control doesn't work any more.

So...two questions...do you think I hold fast and wait a week and call him up and see if he'll take $8k...or option 2, take it for $9.5k...or I guess option three is walk away.

And the next question is cruise control on these trucks...looked all over the forums and didn't see much. I'm guessing it's electric and not vacuum. Anyone have some troubleshooting advice.

If we buy this truck it will promptly be driven cross country and then used occasionally to haul a 5th wheel when he moves from job location to job location. Probably driven across country after it gets new tires, oil, plugs and the cruise control is fixed. Dad has a radio he'll bring out. That ought to be enough to get it home.

Thanks!
Mac
Long live the v10! (Even though Ford killed it...)

I'd walk. Too much for that truck in poor maintenance shape. I gave $7500 2 1/2 years ago for my 01. Excellent condition, 153K miles.

Since then, I've done a tuneup, replaced the AC compressor, steering gear, and a new cat-back system.

Walk away

Tore up truck for too much money.

Cruise control is easy to fix typically. Almost always the switch on the brake booster fails. Its a $15 part.

CC is electronic with a mechanical servo.

I agree walk away. Just keep looking for the right deal. Like you said here in Idaho their is plenty of them around.

CC for that year can be easily diagnosed with an EVTM as it would show the entire electrical schematic. They're not that complicated as already said---just a few quick tests and you'll find the issue pretty quickly.

However as also already mentioned that's a bit too much money for that particular truck. I'd keep shopping for something better in whatever price range you're looking.

Too much money, walk away. I wouldn't even try to sell a vehicle with bald tires. Given that, who knows what else hasn't been kept up.
