I think a few early 87 F250s did. But not any F150s. 86 F250s had a carb. It was a Holley/Motorcraft they were 4180s 4bbl. They were a similar to the 4160 Holley but different in many ways. They used a two stage power valve, different metering plates, etc. I can't remember exactly all the differences. I use to but when I got rid of my 86 F250 4x4 I forgot a lot.

I bought my 87 F-150 4X4 about 2 years ago and it has a Holley 4BBL and my VIN says H- 351 H.O. 4bbl Carb, so this should be original ?

If that is what your VIN decodes, then what is the question?? I'm confused. I thought 85 was the first gen fuel injection on the F150s.

The first generation FI was only available on 302's and possibly the standard 351's, the 351 H.O. And the rest didn't get injection until '88 IIRC.

Thanks for that info. Ford over the years has done so many different things it is hard to remember. Then there is the thing like gas tank size. I have two 18 gal tanks on a 95 F150 short box. That isn't suppose to be. It came from the factory that way.

your 351 should have a motorcraft carb not a holley, if it was made as a non Fuel Injection engine.
in 86, the 302 had FI, the 460 had a carb in 87.
not sure on when the 300 and 351 switched over, but by 88 all gas engines had fuel injection.

tjc, that was my next question on whether the Holley was factory or something else.
Are the Motorcraft 4bbl carbs as good as the Holley ? I like to stay factory if possible !

there are minor differences between the Motorcraft and Holley, and most parts do not interchange even though they look the same. a lot of people look at a Motorcraft and think it is a Holley.

If you would of read my post after you asked I went into a little detail about the carb. Nice to see people read the complete posts when they have questions. I guess I need to quit wasting my time on low number posters.

the VIN will not tell you what type carb is on the engine, just whether it was FI or carb.

I will take a look at the carb tomorrow but know it does have the Holley name stamped on it.

Kermmydog, I apologize but I did read your initial post in its entirety but my brain just did not register the information.

I hope it is the original !!

the other thing to remember is that the truck is close to 27 years old, so who knows what was done to it over the years.
but if the carb has Holley on it, it is definitely not a motorcraft.

The 4180 on the 351ho says 'Holley' on it. Call it a Motorcraft carb if you want but it's made by Holley for Motorcraft and has Holley cast into the fuel bowels. I have the original carb from my 87.

in 87 the 302 was EFI but the 351 and 460 were carb'd. Not sure if you could get the 351 in the F150/Bronco but I have one in a light duty F250 so I assume you could as it's in the same emissions class at the F150. I think the six went EFI in 87.

The 302 went EFI in 85 but you also had the 2bbl carb. While technically not available for 86 I've heard from some people with first hand knowledge that claim there were some 2bbl 302's made in 86. Also the 351 was available with a 2bbl till 85, and again, there may have been a few in 86. By 88 everything was EFI. At least with the normal line, there might have been some oddball chassis or cab/chassis stuff with a carb but you'd be looking at motorhomes/F450's/etc and such if they exist.

that is not a motorcraft carb, it is a holley for ford.
motorcraft carb either has no name at all on it or motorcraft.
