This might be a very dumb question but what makes the clutch fan engage on the 7.3 diesel? I don't believe mine is working.

What makes you think yours isn't working? I just replaced mine after seeing high oil and coolant temps, and never hearing the fan. With a new one, the roar is noticeable.

While towing 5th wheel in CO my truck temp ran high. I never heard the roar of the fan. I'm hoping a new clutch will fix the problem with high temp.

If your temp gauge moved and you didn't hear the fan, its a good bet the clutch needs to be replaced.
