I may have to sell off some projects...

I recently decided to purchase a new aluminum car trailer...well I started out with the intent to BUILD an aluminum car trailer but after I saw some of the slick trailers that are currently on the market I decided I wouldn't be able to do one justice. The other day I stopped by a trailer sales yard in a neighboring town (on the recommendation of a fellow club member) and took a look at an Aluma tilt bed car trailer. All I can say is WOW. I am so used to seeing car trailers with diamond plate decks that I never even considered that there was a better design. This trailer uses extruded aluminum and it really looks good...same stuff they use for the floors in horse trailers. Now I have to sell off some projects that I have had waiting "in the queue" to afford to buy it...kinda the agreement that the bride and I have, buy whatever you want as long as you get rid of something to fund it. If you are in the market for a trailer take a look at the Aluma tilt trailers...I am working on the 8218H model...18 ft 10K (lbs not dollars, but it's not far off in that category either).

Kind of like the Gift of the Magi. Get the trailer but get rid of the projects that you need it for
They are beautiful trailers...

Nice trailer. I bought a tilt bed trailer 6-7 years ago. It's a steel trailer with a wood deck. I paid $2700 for it and never looked back. Trailers don't seem to loose there value. The tile bed is the way to go, no ramps to deal with and mine can load the lowest cars onto it.

I've barrowed trailers in the past that had ramps. About 50% of the time when I went to pick them up the ramps were at the person's house that used it last, 20 miles away or somehow they screwed up the wiring and I had to straighten everything out before I could use it. It's nice to have your own trailer. I only let a few close friends use mine. The biggest abuser of my trailer is my son and in-laws. Usually when they use it it comes back needing a repair.

Funny that you should mention the in-laws trashing the trailer...a buddy of mine borrows his father-in-laws trailer all the time and he told me I could use it as well. So I did use it once and when I got it the wiring was shot, the lights broken, etc. Before I returned it I fixed all the things on the trailer that were broken and cleaned it up. When I dropped it back off at the buddy's father-in-laws place he was shocked, very grateful but shocked. Needless to say he reamed his son-in-laws butt and told me that I was welcome to borrow the trailer anytime. Funny how relatives think that good manners don't apply to family members.

That's funny...I did think about that but my stack of projects is taller than the price of the trailer. The primary reason I wanted a nicer aluminum trailer is because I wanted a trailer that looked as good as the truck that I would be hauling on it. Kinda like driving your date to the prom in an old beater car...not cool.

Out in the barn I have:
1. 1953 F100 1-owner CA truck, no engine
2. 1956 F100 BBW project with C4 IFS/IRS (avatar)
3. 1954 F100 CA truck no engine/trans
4. 1935 Chevy 5W coupe in pieces
5. Full set of FG molds for 1934 Ford 3W coupe
6. 302 & C4 w/zero miles on rebuilds
7. 460 & C6 w/zero miles on HP build

I also have a 1950 Mercury 2-dr coupe that I pulled out of a barn in ND, last year it was registered was 1967. This is the one car that the wife really wants completed out of the bunch.

I guess I am not serious enough about thinning the herd to list any of them in the classifieds, still hoping I can work some magic to swing the trailer buy without sacrificing a project.

That's a nice looking trailer! I would love an aluminum trailer but they are way out of my budget.

I've got two 20 foot car trailers ( steel frame wood decks ) . One has ramps and the other is a H&H tilt bed. I can't stand the tilt bed! Mine has way to steep of an incline to load anything. I loaded a 4x4 truck on it and had to put it in 4 low to get it loaded! I'm sure other trailers have a much better design then mine. But I would check out the incline on it before you buy it. If I ever buy a new one I want a rollback type design.

My other trailer ( with ramps ) has hauled lots of vehicles with no issues. If I'm hauling a low vehicle I just use the tongue jack to raise the front. It levels out the ramps with deck, no issues. But this trailer sits much lower then my tilt deck does.

My trailer is a H&H tilt bed. Never had a problem loading any vehicle on it, 4 cylinder cars or my full sized 4X4, even ones without wheels.

I've loaded a lot of inoperative parts car on it. I will admit if a car isn't running it can be a pain but I have very under powered winch, if I had a better winch there would be no problem.

Mine's the big brother to yours. Mine's a 12,500 pound rated trailer ( 8 lug, 16" tires ). So it sits up higher. So that might be the reason why I have issues with it.

My other trailer has hauled just about everything from two VW rabbits at once to a 47 Ford Grain truck. The best up grade I did with my smaller one is the electric winch! I do not miss having to hand winch vehicles on with a come-along!

No wonder you need to thin the herd. Sounds like a dream collection that a lot of us would love to have. Good luck with all of it and I hope you don't have to part with any.
