Best oil & filter 03 Expedition
I just purchased a 2003 Expedition, and looking for the best protection for the engine, I plan on keeping this one for a long time. In my old Expedition “2001” I used Pennzoil 5W20,Meets Ford’s specification’s (Ford specification WSS-M2C153–H.), with Fram oil filter. I have done a lot of research “internet”, and found that Fram’s quality is not that good. I change the oil every 3,000 miles and have it narrowed down to Pennzoil 5W20, with Wix oil filter P/N51372 $6.25, auto parts store, or Pennzoil 5W20, with Motorcraft oil filter P/N FL820-S $7.75, Ford Dealer. I know that everyone has differing opinions, but will this provide the best protection? Or better then OEM?
Thanks, for all the info
Jeff

If you're changing your oil every 3,000 miles it's not really going to matter too much what oil brand you are using. As long as it meets oem specs then you're OK. I use Mobil Drive Clean 5W30 but I'm switching to Mobil 1 10W30 tomorrow, actually.
I use the Motorcraft filter. It is the same filter as the Purolator Pure One which is generally regarded as one of the best. I would definitely stick with Motorcraft.

heislerj,
The 5w=20 Pennzoil and the Castrol GTX has about 50 ppm's of moly in the bottle but the Motorcraft does not. The only time moly is of importance is when things get crazy in the engine compartment and the only lubrication left is the barrier lube. I have yet to see a 5w-20 Ford speced oil produce a bad used oil analysis. The stuff is exremely well built. If you want your engine to run cleaner, longer, stick with the Ford approved 5w-20, even in the extremes.

Stick with the motorcraft all the way. The 4.6/5.4/6.8 engines are pretty picky. BG company showed our ford dealership independent test results of all major brand oils. Motorcraft was #1 by a long ways. Walmart has motorcraft filters cheaper than dealer cost, and my walmart's even have actual M/C oil. I use M/C 15W40 diesel oil in my 390. GOOD STUFF!!!
