Buying a 6.0

I'm thinking about selling my v10 and buying a 6.0. The one I'm looking at is a 2003 King Ranch F-250 4x4. They said that they just spent over $5k bulletproofing it and they have the receipts. No chips or programmers. Bone stock. The thing that I'm worried about is the miles. It has 280k on it. Would y'all feel comfortable buying a bulletproofed 6.0 with that many miles?

Yeah, it they're talking studs, EGR delete and all the other goodies, I'd be interested...

Price is also a big determining factor...

Miles wouldn't scare me, all it says is that the PO wasn't afraid to drive it anywhere.

They want $8800 for it. I think that it is a pretty fair price

Run as fast as you can. Just go look at the number of TSB's for a 6 leaker. If you like mystery and suspense as to how far you'll go before it breaks down, get a 6 leaker. the only bunch that truly loves 6 leakers are Ford dealer service departments. Best thing that ever happened to them, always busy.

Sounds very reasonable, but yes, a list would help...

It also sounds like they either don't know what it's worth or its a situation where they have money to play with and just want their money out of it.

Then you hear from the guys that have never owned one or worked on one.

If you have not already come on over to 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Do some reading in the tech folder. There you will find what you need to be looking for
and what tests you should do before you put any $$ down.

As with any truck you have to do maintenance or it will most likely be a pig.
That can be said of ANY truck

Or better yet, find you a good 6.8 V-10 that will tow with a 7.3 with alot less diesel problems. Been there done that.

The 2- and even 3-valve V10's have their own problems. Luckily they seem a little easier and less expensive to fix most of the time, the price you pay for sacrificing raw grunt.
