Horn, cruise control not working

Hi all,

I have looked thru the posts on this site for various problems so i finally joined! I have a 2001 F-250 SD XLT with the ABS light on, cruise control doesnt work and the horn only works with the key out. The codes for the ABS is no signal input from the left and right front wheel sensors. No problem there. Also my speedo stops or jumps when I press the horn button while driving down the road. When I quit pressing the horn button the speedo works fine. So after looking over the posts on cruise control, etc. Does the rear speed sensor have anything to do with the cruise, horn not working? All fuses are good so I am thinking the cruise control switch on the master cylinder or a short in the steering wheel column or my ignition switch. What do you all think?

Hello M. Summers and welcome to FTE.

Have you considered that it might be a clock spring issue?

Yes I have and was going to try that first. Just wondered if anybody else had the same kind of problem as I am having.

i had the problem with the cruise not working and fixed it by accident . .....i replaced the sensor that screws in on the side of the master cylinder that had been leaking brake fluid thru it....on that sensor it had a harness that has a fusible link. the fuse was blown . i went to ford to get a new sensor and the harness came with it for 25$ replaced it and the cruise worked again....i kinda killed 2 birds with one stone. the sensor is called the brake pressure switch connector. not sure about the horn. i would be more lost with a broken horn then broken cruise control thou. thats just me

Thanks for the reply. I am gonna try the harness, pressure switch on the master cylinder first since that is not too expensive. If that doesnt fix it I will try the clockspring next. I'll update my post once I try the pressure switch first.

FYI: The brake pressure sensor is a recall item. A dealer should take care of it for no charge.

The pressure switch on the master cylinder has nothing to do with the horn. It will affect the operation of the speed control ONLY if open.

Check the ground at the speed control servo. For some unknown reason, the steering column ground, which is required for both the horn and the speed control, goes THROUGH the speed control servo.

Don't start buying and installing parts based on the suggestions of internet posters, you'll usually just waste time and money! There are specific pinpoint tests that can be done to improve your odds of getting it right the first time.

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on whether or not recall 05S28 has already been done. If it was already completed, you're on your own for any future repairs.

Well yes, but since that's true of any recall, I didn't think it needed to specifically stated.
