buddy from work told me today he has a load tester and charging tester.he said I will have to separate batteries to load test.pretty sure im dealing with either battery or alternator now.truck tonight when I shut it down was 12.4 two hours later down to 12.19 volts.i don't think im dealing with parasitic drain because I left sit from Friday night to sunday night and batteries still had12.09.this morning hit glow plugs10.5 volts then cranked truck and went to 8.6 to 9.4

After changing my power steering hose that blew this morning I took my alternator and had it tested came back good.hooked load tester to batteries, started at 12.4 out 100 amp load and immediately fell to 10.4 then went to 10.2 after 10 second.so would this mean batteries junk?

Adam10 did you ever figure out what the problem was? Seems this thread petered out on you.

Hope that is your fix. I believe my starter is getting ready to poop the bed and that is why I was asking. Good luck.

Just a quick update on what brought me back here. Starter dragging and not wanting to engage but always started the truck with effort. So I figured new starter solenoid from O fixes that. NO. New starter from Advance (made in Japan) fixes that. And how. My truck never started as fast as now. Ever. Remember I bought it used with 42K on it and I actually returned my Wally batteries under warranty last year due to dragging starter. Now, pretty new batteries and kick **** starter. I have never seen the engine spin this fast at startup.

Summary:

Knew starter was going out and hoped starter solenoid would fix. Not.

New Advance starter kicks butt. For now anyway. It is either a Mitsu unit or a Nippondenso per the paperwork but made in Japan like the OE unit. Key thing here is made in Japan and not China. Roll your own if you like. Limited lifetime warranty, (Walmart must hate me on the batts) but I am holding on to my weak OEM Mitsu starter for a bit just in case.

For the curious, I got part number 99402 which is a three bolt direct replacement. Like a silly drunk I kept turning the key and starting the truck because I was tickled at how fast it spun the engine and started. As always I will post up if anything changes.

On edit, so happy I thought about starting a new thread but time is the judge hre.

Mike,

The three-bolt unit is a Mitsubishi design. See:
