Another ABS/Brake light issue...grrrrrr!

First off, thanks for all the help so far!

Ok..when I got my truck about two months ago, the speedo was jumping and the abs/brake light was on. I done some searching on here and determined the VSS was bad, so I went to Ford and picked one up. Problem solved..lights went out..speedo worked as did the cruise. A few days ago, the lights came back on out of the blue, but the speedo still works fine, but no cruise. I drained and replaced the diff oil yesterday, cleaned the vss and no change. The toothed wheel is in good shape as well. Brake fluid level is at the max, all brake lights and third light are working. I checked the vacuum this morning and its pulling about 25hg at idle.
When I turn the key on, the ABS light goes out for about 3 seconds, then comes back on. When I start the engine, same thing. The red brake light never goes out.

Whats left?
Thanks!

Have yall looked into your vss wiring? It is fairly common to get a break and subsequent corrosion inside the wire itself.

Are you having any issues with shifting (if automatic trans)?

Red brake light is a different indicator. It would come on if you were losing vacuum, or had your park brake applied. In your case it doesn't sound like that is the issue. So I would expect your sensor is corroded, or out of adjustment at the park brake pedal.

How's the brake fluid level? Any hydraulic leaks?

Which sensor might be corroded? If the wiring was bad/broken for the vss, wouldn't the speedo not be working?

Shifting seems to be normal.

It sure sounds electrical. I know this is super simple, but on mine occassionally you have to pull on the parking brake to get it to shut off the red light. If it is at all out of position it will trigger that thing. Course, I don't seem to have the cable hooked up properly so that might be part of it too.

Not necessarily.I would think the same as you though. On my truck the speedo was dead on and the ABS light was on. It was corrosion in the VSS wire itself.

Oh, ok. Was it right at the plug where the wires go in? Does Ford sell the replacement plug?

I know some trucks have had abrasions on the wires near the shocks, but mine were all secured back.
