Steering Wheel

Anyone know how many different steering wheels came with these trucks?
I just bought a 79 and the wheel looks almost the same as a ordiniary one but its laced on there?
It looks aftermarket except it has the regular 79 Ford logo etc in the center?
Some kind of special edition wheel?

There are three variations on the steering wheel from 73-79.
73-77 are very similar to the 78-79's. The 73-77 steering wheel spokes came out from the center at a slight downward angle. The 78-79 the spokes came out from the center first straight, then angled down.
Both of these versions were available with or without cruise control buttons and with or without the fake wood trim.
The third version was the "sport" steering wheel.

I have 3 versions, the standard 78-79 Black with Black/silver trim, 78-79 Black wheel with Wood Grain trim and Cruise Control buttons, 78-79 Factory leather wrapped Black with Black/silver trim.

Trying to find a Black/Silver trim center With Cruise Control buttons in order to use in the factory leather wrapped wheel.

I found a leather wrapped one on a 80 ish truck, it fit my 79 columb and either horn pad (with or wthout cruise did fit right in.

I'll look for you a black silver horn pad with cruise, but I do believe most are XLT and wood grain??

Would this one work?

I do not think it is OEM being a leather wrapped one? I think it is from a 80's ish truck or Bronco?

Pull the horn pad off and look for some #'s in there.

yes it is a factory steering wheel. and yes the 78 and 79 ranger xit models came with leather wrapping as show in the op's pic. it is unusual however to find one without the cruise control

Really, I hope numberdummy or mikeo0o0o0 see this statement, and can confirm this.

I have seen a few 73-79 Ford trucks.....lol and have never seen a leather wrapped steering wheel that was factory, maybe in a 80's model, but not in a 79.

Just curious, that's all.

I was right there with Rich. I've never seen a leather wrapped wheel from the factory either.
I looked up application in the parts catalog and surprise! There it is.
