E40D pan differences between 93 F150 and 96 Bronco

I replaced the transmission pan on my 96 Bronco with a Dorman that had a drain plug - this one: Dorman 265-805 Transmission Oil Pan, that I ordered via Amazon.com.

I want to install the same pan on my '93 F150 4x4 (also w/E40D) and Amazon states that it won't fit. Is Amazon wrong, or is there really a difference in the trans pan on these E40D's? One would thing the front of my '93 F150 with same drive train would be IDENTICAL to a '96 Bronco's. Am I wrong? If so, what's different?

I know early pans didn't have a drain, like my 89. I will bet if its got a drain plug, its the same thing.

Should work just fine. When I serviced my trans I put a new Ford pan from a late 90's E4OD to have a drain plug. Worked just fine. It was a little pricey, but its a genuine Ford part. Also swapped to a reusable rubber Ford gasket.

Did you do your Pro Comp lift yourself? If so, was it difficult to install?

I meant to post when you got it. That is a BEAUTIFUL truck. Nice find. As for the lift, no I didn't install it. It was on the truck when my parents bought the thing in '98. However, just to give you an idea, this might help.

The pan will bolt right up, all that matters is the bolt pattern and it's the same, the only difference would be 4wd pan vs. 2wd pan, and that would be a difference in filter and capacity. Heck, even the 4R100 can use those pans!.

No problem Bud! If you feel like doing some mods to help that trans, check the link in my sig.

Encho - GREAT writeup on the trans cooler and shift kit!!! If I ever get THAT brave, I may attempt both...I'm more likely to do the cooler install than the shift kit (all those CB's and springs!!!)

I just ordered my new tranny pan w/drain plug from Amazon - $37.xx w/free 2 day shipping.

I should be back on my feet a week from tomorrow, so that will be one of the first "to-do's" on my list. My truck only has 81k miles on it and I don't know if the original owner (I'm the 2nd) ever serviced the transmission, so I'm definitely going to!

The pan I have on my truck right now is listed as a pan for the 4R100.
