Sometimes my F150 takes a few tries to start... bad starter? Spark plugs?
I have a 2004 F150 with almot 150K miles on it. Two weeks ago I was coming back home from a 5 hour trip and my electrical system completely died. Got towed to a shop. Next morning the mechanic tests my alternator and says it's charging but my battery is completely dead. I get a new battery and get home just fine. Battery light is now on when it never used to be. Take it to another shop just to make sure and they say my alternator is barely charging, so I get a new one put in. Last night I was starting my truck to leave work and I turn the key and it makes the normal starting sound but the engine doesn't start. I stop after about 2 seconds. Then I turn the key again and it tries to start for about 8 seconds. I stop again. Then I try one more time and it starts after about 2.5 seconds. Really odd since I have a new battery and alt. So I'm assuming something may be up with my starter? What do you guys think?
Not sure if this will be a factor but it had rained INSANELY hard that day at work and I drove through a bunch of water on my lunch break. We had tornado warnings and all. So I don't know if that's common for trucks to do if something get's wet under the engine.
Additional info: I recall last winter this happened a handful of times but the time it took to actually start the engine was only about 2 seconds, but I still took note of it.
EDIT: Also, I'm not sure if I'm imagining things but it seems like my truck is idling just a tad bit rougher than usual...
