How do I power up the cluster in a junk yard?
I tried to search, but only found info on the intermittent problem. Please read.
I have been searching for a 99-04 4.2 for my Thunderbird swap for a good while. I finally found one that I can pull myself (1999 F-150), but I have no idea what the mileage is on it. The odometer is digital, so I am hoping there is a way to power it up. The front of the truck is smashed and I will have to sawzall the rad support off, so I'm not concerned about cut/splicing wires if necessary. I only need to read the odometer, and nothing else.
Thanks.

If your in the cab, on the fuse panel, fuse 2 is powered full time.
fuse 19 and 29 are powered with the ignition switch in run position.
If you make a way to put battery on those terminal, I don't know what you might see but if it's mileage you may be in luck.
In the Haynes manuel page 12-30 will show what these fuses power.
Let us know how it works out.
Good luck.

best way to get the odometer to light up would be to put a battery on the original mattery terminals, if they are accessable..
if you change the cluster, you will need the computer programmed to match the truck. You would need to go to the FORD dealer to have it reset for the new vehicle. Will not start untill you do that.
