New Member / 05 F250 6.0 Question
Hello Everyone, I just joined, but have been a Ford owner all my life. Currently have an 05 Expedition 5.4 (Cam Phaser needed)
61 Galaxie
05 Expedition
06 Zephyr
07 Escape
Local dealer lot has a 2005 F250 4X4 (Crew cab, long bed) 6.0 Diesel, with just over 73K miles for $16,900, tires look like new. Appears previous owner had a 5th wheel on it. Since I pull a 21' Pontoon (Referred to as the rolling brick around here due to having NO aerodynamics at all) and the expedition needs cam phasers, I was looking at trading to a Diesel for the towing rather than fix the expedition.
I would like to know what specifically I can look for to be sure this is a good truck. While it sounds fine, and looks fine, I am wary given the 6.0 issues I have read about. Neighbor has an 03 F250 with over 200K on the 6.0, but he has done the EGR delete on his. (Is that needed on an 05?)
Please feel free to post any advice whatsoever. I am mechanically inclined and do most of my own repairs, but do not know diesels very well. Also, would you all consider this a good price? In addition, what fuel economy can I expect? (Towing and empty if any of you have the numbers) I drive the speed limit, and I don't drive my vehicles hard.
Thanks very much.
Dave

Hello Redford,
Thanks very much for the advice, I just posed my questions in the 6.0 forum. Really appreciate it. Had a 94 F250 5.8 2WD years ago and it was a tank, and never let me down, but never got more than about 10mpg, loaded or not. REALLY like the idea of almost double the torque over the expedition that the 6.0 would give me, so I need to make my decision today.
