BTS, JW, and RacerX put mor than 10hrs of just machining time in to there builds to be able to add more clutches and increase fluid pressure. And a lot of custom made parts.

This is my .02. I'd hate to see you waste a couple grand and be back in the same spot. It's your money spend how you please.

BTW when I was one the phone with Brian at BTS for more than a hour and a half he told me to go for if I had a good builder and if I wasn't going to break the 450hp mark. And never once tried to sell me his trans or talk me out of building one.

Guy is giving me one year unlimited miles........here is the most power my truck will ever see is stage twos and d66 or whatever cleans stage twos the best I'm wanting a tranny that will hold that and not have to worry about it but I refuse to pay 5 grand for a tranny and that not even be installed I'll have to go threw the hassle of pulling and installing and the shipping will be outrages I live nowhere near bts or jw so driving there isn't an option in all reality stage twos I might see 450 at very best

What stageII's are you talking 160/80 or 180/80 ? Either way I don't think a D66 will clean either one up.

BTW Travis put down a little over 500 with 160/80

I know how you're feeling. That's why I went with the ZF swap.

With the gear reduction, it makes it quite easy to back in with the ZF.

The bottom line is that if you want a reliable 500hp trans, there are only a few options and the cost is not cheap.
Todd's right on mine, I have a good build, but I could wreck it if I tried. I agree if you want to hold 500hp, you need to spend 5000. I just couldn't swing the cash for one so I went this way. I do work it hard, but only a few thousand miles a year, so I hope it lasts me a while. I do no hotrodding with it, just drive it like a work truck.

I'm amazed a lot of people never think of doing that. I've done that with an automatic tranny just to take the stress off the tranny while backing. And when I tell people, that think I'm crazy until I explain to them that I don't lock in the hubs, I just use the gear reduction in the low side of the transfer case. And, I wouldn't be opposed to do it with auto hubs if there's very little turning involved, and on gravel.

the best thing you can do (apart from buying a built tranny) is find a 4r100 from a later 7.3 and build it to E4OD specs...

this way you get the stronger internals and updated case. Then get the Racerx/alto red clutch and band kits.

Add a BTS/JW valve body and a good billet 3 clutch TC and you are set...
