off the wall question about v-10 ignition system

how is the OEM DIS system driven on the modular v-10s?
don't just say ECM, that part is obvious. is EVERYTHING tied into the ECM?
or is the ignition control module that fires the coil packs a separate part (and i'm ASSuming driven by a crank or cam-sensor)?

i did some googling and it looks like ford made some v-10 based hydro-power/pumping unit for agricultural usage with LPG fuel, so i know there has to be a stand along type of ignition system at least available right?

just think engine swaps and carburetors, and it will all make more sense...
