Question about 5.8 timing cover and oil pan gasket
During my ZF swap I ran into some coolant on top of the timing cover so I decided to yank the upper and lower intake, and R&R the water pump. Further in I noticed the timing cover gasket was way out of line, so I figured since I'm into it this far, might as well pull the cover, replace the gasket, and replace the timing set while I had it open.
I got a Felpro timing cover gasket set, and it has little C shaped gasket parts with it for the corners of the pan. The included instructions say to cut the oil pan gasket and use these C shaped pieces.
My oil pan gasket has a metal core. I wiped it down as good as I could, but I'm not going to attempt to cut through the metal oil pan gasket and risk nicking the oil pan. Anyone else encountered a metal gasket like this?
What would be the best way to seal the crank area?
I had to cut the part of the gasket on the pan where it goes under the crank. The timing cover was improperly installed at some point and the gasket was out of place when it was put on, so it was malformed and unable to be re-used.
