Engine break in? And oil vis

Whats the norm for engine break in mileage on the new fords. Some say 3k, some say none. Whats your opinion,

In addition can I go up in oil grade to 5w-30 from the recommended 5w-20? Its hotter than two hells here and I want to go up a little. Will it void a warrantee?

thanks johnny.

All internal components are seated (broke in) at the factory, but, typically it takes up to 1K miles for the tranny, rear, etc and secondary components to begin loosening up so to speak. IMHO, the drivetrains begin to hit their performance peak at 30K miles.

IMHO- check the operating temp spec for the 5w-20....you are likely to be ok, thicker oils (although good for the basic engine components) are hell on the hydraulically actuated timing chain tensioners, etc.

We went to a 10-30 oil nice and it ticked like crazy. I've been told by a couple people that the oil passages are pretty small on the newer Ford engines and flow gets restricted with the thicker oil (true or not I do not know). But since it doesn't rev high I don't worry about the thicker oil even in the summer.
