Scored a 78 F250 Snow Fighter

In my quest to add power steering to my truck and to replace the stock 69 Manual steering box I've been searching Kijiji for a 78-79 F250 4x4 steering box. I found an ad that said 78 Dana 60 front axle, not a high pinion. Other parts available as well. Short story is that I just got home with what I'm pretty sure is a 78 Snow Fighter with a 351M, NP435, NP205 & Dana 60 front and rear axles, new in the box rotors, front pads, rear brake disks AND a pair of 1969 West Coast Junior mirrors in very, very good condition! All for a great, great price. It feels like Christmas..

Well it didn't take me long to score this one, 3 weeks of looking. Actually there are probably quite a few of these old trucks around, plowing is a way of life around here during the winter.

The owner scored a 3 trucks for the price of 1 deal and this truck didn't interest him at all. The axles are 3.54 gears but I think that's going to work just fine for me. And talk about heavy! I towed an 84 F250 HD home a few weeks back and couldn't even tell I was towing anything but this beast was a different story! And now the fun begins. Strip the axles, P/S, brakes, NP205 transfer case and a few other goodies then sell what I can to recoup a few $$$'s and I'll have the old 69 Crew a lot closer to being done!!

Is that a typo? a Sno-Fighter would of been equipped with a high pinion Dana 60...

Thank fully the owner didn't know what he had!! He didn't think it was a high pinion and that's what the ad stated. So I did my homework and found out that all 78's were high pinion, so I ran the BOM from the axle tag. Still the axle could have been swapped out so I tried not to get too excited but when I saw the truck and the BOM stamped on the axle tube (610023-2) I knew it was a high pinion 60. So between the owner not knowing what he had and the truck being 60 miles out of town I was the first to show up with a pocket full of cash. We did the deal and I flat towed her home!
