Need a Starter Push Button - 49 Ford

I recently bought a "reproduction" starter button on Ebay but it would not fit into the hole in my dash. Ordinarily, I would enlarge the hole and make it fit but my dash is already painted.

Anybody know where I can get an original button or a repro that will fit?

Dennis Carpenter in N.C. Sacramento Vintage Ford, I'm sure there are other places too, but those have been my "go to" suppliers.

Keep in mind that 48-51 starter buttons are grounded to the dash and only have one wire. '52-on have two wires and send battery voltage to the starter. If you are using a 12v solenoid you likely want the newer one. They are physically identical AFAIK. Even if you are using the original 6v solenoid that gets grounded, you may want to use the late-model and run one side of the switch to a good ground, rather than sanding the edges of the hole to get a good ground.

Napa or any good parts store sells them as well, but you need to find a counter man that can look it up in the parts book.

Napa carries it, they may not have it in the store but they can usually get it in 1-2 days. Part #ECH STB1 Or you can buy it online from them.

They didn't have that one in stock when I needed mine, so I got #ECH STB6301 instead, which is the two wire. I connected a ground wire to one side and the other to the solenoid.

I have an original chrome button in usable condition with the wear and blemishes you'd expect in a working truck. You can have it for price of shipping. I can shoot some pictures if you'd like.
