Rotten smell from ventilation
Hello everyone,
at first let me say that I am from germany so I will have to look up some of the vocabulary and it may not always be the right word.
I'm in the US for 12 month and bought a 2002 Ford Expedition (2WD, 4,6l)
I own the car since January. Two weeks ago a smell developed from the ventilation and it got worse daily. I googled the problem and tried to fix it with inserting anti bacteria spray in the ventilation shafts (the things were the air comes out into the drivers cabin) The smell got different (more chemical) for a few days and is now back to it's normal foul smelling self (at first I thought maybe something died somewhere in the air conditioning but I could not smell anything in the engine compartment.) So I googled again and set out to find the cabin air filter..to replace it I followed these instructions: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...replace-3.html
the pictures on page three of that plastic thing looked just liked mine.. except mine had no screws and I had to cut it out (maybe a mistake in retrospective, will that be a problem in the future? does that need to be sealed airtight?) Of course that compartment for the filter was empty and also it did not smell bad inside this compartment. But there was some dirt and old dry leaves inside..should I glue the piece of plasic back on? So that is my story so far. The ventilation does smell bad when it is set on panel and when it is set on A/C also the smell gets better after like 5 minutes. The worst blow comes at the beginning. But it does not vanish completely. Also I read something about water coming out on the passenger side - my girlfriend noticed like a month ago on a very long tour (maybe 8 hours..) that every once in a while a little drop of water fell on her feet. But I don't know if that means anything and it does not happen on short tours. I hope someone can help me. Thank you.
