i had it happen to me, i went through the grill and unbolted the latch from the radiator support, its tight in there but you can get them

I have been able to get in there on other cars and trucks and find where the cable attaces to the latch and either pull on the cable with needle nose vise grips or if the cable is broken there move the latch arm that the cable pulls..
I was just messing with my hood latch this weekend, so the mechanism is in my head pretty good. if the cable broke off inside the latch mechanism, you're gonna be stuck unbolting the mech from the radiator support like mtd said. I can't think of any way you'd be able to actuate the mechanism through the grill without a cable...
if it broke off from the handle in the cab you could grab that with visegrips, like CH says. Its probably broken in one of those two places rather than in the middle somewhere...
