How can I tell if I have a lift?

This is a dumb question I know, but how can I tell if I have a lift on my truck? I believe it has a 3" lift, but I don't know for sure. The rear has blocks (the ones that look like they have shoe horns sticking out of them) between the axle housing and the leaf springs, but I don't know if these are factory or not. The front does not have any blocks. I think the leaf springs are stock. Are there some measurements I could take?

The truck is a '78 F-250 4x4 Supercab.

I'm trying to find shocks, but they are always asking if I have a lift and how much.

Alright I am no 4x4 expert so I will bump this with my opinion. Blocks are a shoddy way to do a lift, and i dont think the factory would have done it. Maybe if you post a pic someone can tell you right off. Also if there arent blocks in the front does the truck sit level?

Good idea, I'll take some photos. Funny enough, the truck did sit level with the gas engine. Don't know how it sits with the new Cummins yet though.

78's didn't come from the factory with front lift blocks. The po (previous owner) may have installed them but they are a big no no.

We will be able to tell you more with pics.

Don't quote me on this. F250's get factory 2" blocks and 350's get 3" blocks usually (4x4 anyways). The factory blocks did have the bump stop "shoe horn" you referred to. Ford factory blocks had this anvil style (not technical name) bump stop integrated into them it isn't exclusive to ford factory blocks though. 460 ford man is correct, there is never a situation in which you should have front blocks. Rear is probably stock. Check front shocks and leafs for markings that would make it stick out as after market (like the skyjacker logo) Count leafs and compare to stock # (don't know exact) to see if anyone has added any. I'd bet if the rear is stock the front also is. Check to see if the leaf shackles have been flipped on rear ( probably aren't, doesn't happen on front or it interferes with steering). Also if the tires are bigger that 35's and it doesn't rub it has a lift.

To do a quick verification I found these links, check 'em out.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Don't want to misinform people.

like mentioned, those sound like stock rear blocks. Are the front springs pretty flat or even neg arched? That would more than likely be stock height. I believe my front springs had two leaf sections.

Measure from the center of your hubs to the bottom of your fender.

I have a 78 supercab 4wd also.

stock front 21
stock rear 22
Approx.......

With a 6 inch lift I am now at 27/28

This is from a different site when I was trying to figure mine out...
