1988 F250 engine stutters white smoke and gas smell
I have a 1988 F250 4x4 7.5 gas motor hard to start after it starts running white smoke comes out when you push gas pedal and smells like gas , engine stutters and won't stay running. Oil smells a little like gas too.
One mechanic says I need a new engine and another says bad injectors pushing out too much gas.
Anybody have any ideas? One is a $300 fix and one is $2000.
Tight budget.

Rent fuel pressure tester, find out fuel pressure. Remove vac line hose from FPR, and if there is gas in the hose or leaking out of the nipple on the FPR, then diaphragm is ruptured and its sucking in raw fuel.
I didn't know the '88, 460 was EFI. Pull codes for any help first.
White smoke can also be a sign of coolant leaking into combustion. Since you stated you can smell fuel in oil, then good chance that to high a fuel pressure, leaking injectors, damaged FPR.
Hope this helps.

It will be on the fuel rail. Can you post some pics of your engine bay? I haven't a clue how your engine looks as its a '92 transplant. Maybe another member can chime in. The FPR will have a vac hose ran from the manifold as it needs vacuum to operate correctly. No pic to post as I'm on my smartphone, but you can do a search for what it will look like on the internet.

No need to have it running to check codes and fuel psi before running. Check for those 1st and did you find the FPR? You can see if there is fuel leaking out of the nipple, but if it hasn't run since this morning, then fuel PSI would have bottomed out and may not be able to tell. Cycle the key on and off several times and then check to see if fuel is leaking or shooting out top of nipple with the vac hose removed.
