advice on 89 f150
I have a 89 f150 that had a 300 striaght six in it with a 5 speed transmission. I recently put a brand new 90 f250 351w in it and want to change a few things but not sure what i need or where to start. Theres a couple tings i would like to change for ex. 1). It done this with both motors but going down the road in 5th gear about 60mph i tack 2500rpm. I know the truck is geared low but im not sure whats in the rear end but i would to like put different gears in it to reduce the rpm at higher speeds. Any recomendations of to what gears would be best? 2) I have a 5 speed transmission still bolted to the 5.8 and i want to go to an automatic and i was wondering what would be the best transmission to bolt up to a 5.8. Also is it even worth the trouble to do so and how much trouble would it be? 3) Ever since i put the 351 in, it likes to idle high sometimes around 1500 rpm. I thought it might have been the tps or the other sensor on the throttle body but i changed both but no results. I believe it may be the throttle cable because i bought the one for the 4.9 and the 5.8 and both didnt seem to cooperate. Another assumption is the butterfly may be sticking because i took it off to clean it and it seemed to have a lil stick from the idle posion as you opened it up but if your driving and it hangs all i do is smack the gas real quick and it comes back down, any ideas? 4) Any recomendations for a good sounding set of headers, (nothing to expensive, this is a hunting truck) that go with a "flowsound" muffler (may change it to something different).
If anyone has any experience or input about this it would be highly apreciated!
Thanks,
Scott
