v10 2v to 3z engine swap

Hello, I'm not much of a v10 man but I bought a 2008 f350 with a v10 to put a cummins in and now I have to sell my v10. I've got a guy that wants my engine but he needs to replace his 2000 v10. I have done enough research to find out that mine is a 3v and his is a 2v. If we swap the accessories over from the 2v to the 3v will it go? Are the long blocks the same? If not, does anyone out there need a 2008 v10 with 126k miles? It has the good heads that have steal inserts for the spark plugs to screw in.
Thanks, Ross

It can be done, however it is not very common. The engine itself and the mounts will not be a problem at all, but the electronics and wiring might be.. You would most likely need the Torqshift tranny out of the 08 for the swap too. Possibly the dash cluster and ABS control module and a few other things as well..

This forum might help you out

Yes but is it possible to strip them both to the bare long block and swap electrical, ac compressor, alternator, intake manifold, maybe exhaust manifold, all the sensors etc. over to the other engine? If I can do that the tranny shouldn't be an issue right?

Yes it is possible to do as far as I know, I read a thread in a forum somewhere that the 4r100 that is in the '00 can be used and bolts right up. If it were me I would put the Torqshift in because the 4r100 isn't the greatest but it will take extra work.. But the swap is easily possible.

I would definitely be using the torqhift if it were mine but I am just trying to figure this out to see the engine. There is a much higher demand for a 2v v10 than there is for a 3v v10. Can anyone else confirm that?

I wouldn't see how there would be a higher demand, considering how much more smooth and free flowing the 3v seems, but I must say that a solid 60-70% of the v10's I see on the road today are 2v's so I guess that that could be possible. And the Torqshift is no doubt the only truly good combo. I would google "2v v10 to 3v swap" and see what kind of information that you find..

I've researched it quite a bit, all you get when you search for "2v to 3v v10 swap" is people swapping 3v heads onto there 2v and lots of info about people putting v10s into mustangs and all sorts of other vehicles. I think the 2v's are in higher demand because they have more miles on them and I think they had some more issues. Most people just want to simply replace their old wore out 2v.

The only v10 problems I have heard of are blowing plugs out of the head, which they fixed in 03 with deeper threads. I have had 2 v10s in an f250 and Excursion, as well as many experiences with powerstrokes. The v10 is a great and reliable motor, my f250 has 276k miles and my excursion has 176k. Both owned since I ordered them new. Other than tune ups, exhaust atuds, and taking good care of them I haven't had issues. I did have 1 problem, but it was a factory problem. In my f250 an injector dropped into one of the cylinder walls and tore it all to kingdom come. My tech looked into it and it was because on all injectors there are 2 clips that hold them in place, and 1 of those clips was never installed and it finally dropped. Unfortunately it was 4,000 miles after my warranty expired and and ford obviously wouldn't touch it so I was stuck with the bill.. So I dropped a brand new engine in and was back on the road in less than 2 weeks and I haven't had an issue since then. Knock on wood, lol

you can swap them over. the 3 valve will run with the 2v PCM, but te issue is the intake. 3 valves use throttle by wire, and its a much larger TB, intakes will not interchange and the 3 valve uses IMRCs variable plenums unlike the 2 valve
