1979 Ford Bronco 6.6 Liter (Project Thunderhorn)
Hey All! Been working on my Bronco and I've ran into a problem that I don't know how to tackle. There is something wrong with my ignition wiring. When the key is turned to the run position (not just the start position) the starter will engage. This then engages the engine. Being how the only key position that will disengage the starter is the off position and the engine and starter cannot run at the same time I therefore cannot run the truck. I have already checked the starter solenoid and the starter and they are fine. Then I checked and replaced the ignition itself and later found that there seems to be a short in the wires leading up to the ignition and that the pigtail or ignition wiring collar is slightly melted. The problem is that I cannot find a replacement for the pigtail (if that is the problem) besides buying the entire new $500 wiring harness. Can anyone tell me where I can find this part? or anything else I have overlooked that could be the real problem?
