Well E7TE heads didn't exist until 1987 so either the whole motor was replaced at some point(what is the block casting number?) or some previous owner replaced the original big chamber smog heads with these smaller chamber EFI heads to gain some compression or just to fix a cracked head.

The head casting number is on the head gasket side so you can't see it unless the intake is off or the head is removed, but these heads often have a capital letter cast into the outside corner just below the valve cover lip too, and for the E7s that letter is "T", if you find an "R" that's an E5TE head and an "S" is for E6SE. At a glance all these heads look the same but there are significant differences in them all.

this thread is interesting to me because 1) its aged, 2) inconsistancies and 3) i recently purchased a 351W HO that came out of a '85 f-250. i am going to rebuild, improve with a few bolt-ons and install in my '54. if i learn anything i will try to bring long overdue closure if needed to all this excitement.

Well good morning to you all. I was happy to see this thread pop up again like most of you. Kidding aside, I was able to rebuild the 351W since my above quote. The below link is my truck's build thread with lots of pictures and a video of it running. It just so happened that one of the E5 heads was cracked so I found some E7 heads which fit nicely. I also added an updated carb and hope to find some nice headers soon that fit like a glove. The cam (206/221 - .444/452), lifters, Pistons are new and as stock as I could find. Nothing special. Well, hope this entertains.
