Silver trim on instrument cluster and radio bezel - easy and cheap trick!

Hey y'all, I would like to share with you guys the easy and cheap solution I found to repaint the silver trim on the instrument cluster, bezel and A/C vents on my 1982 F100.
I didn't want to go the paint and brush route, for two reasons: 1) I didn't want to go through the process of removing all the parts that need to be repainted from the truck; 2) With my artistic abilities, the interior of the truck would end up looking like a Picasso painting.
So I went to Hobby Lobby and bought this marker for $3.47 plus tax:

One hour later, the truck went from this:

To this:

I was really satisfied with the results, the color matches the original trim to the tee, and the job was really easy to be done (literally an hour). Just thought I would share this alternative. Thanks!

I used this trick years ago on a 70 Chevelle restoration. Its not as good as factory paint, but for a few bucks I think its worth it.

Next time I do this, i will use silver automotive touch up paint instead of the Hobby Lobby type paint. I found the arts/craft paint pen paint will fade and wear off quickly.

I didn't even know my truck was supposed to have these raised silver lines on the dash.

Automotive touch-up paint will last longer, but I doubt you'd be able to get nearly as neat an application with it off a brush. I have used these paint markers as well, and for the ease in which you can apply a really good line, it's easy to accept having to touch it up occasionally.

RAY1986F150 and tempest411, you are absolutely right. No doubt that the automotive paint would last longer; but I figured that, once the marker starts fading, I can just retouch it in 30 seconds.

Yeah, good point. I wonder if either the hobby lobby stuff or the automotive touch up paint would look better. Can you get the touch up paint in a felt tip pen like a hobby lobby paint pen?

Good question, now I'm curious to compare them...
And yes, you can buy automotive touch up paint in pens, check this out:

http://www.automotivetouchup.com/paintpen.asp

But, besides being more expensive, they also require either a primer or clearcoat.

Well, if that is the case its definitely not worth messing with. I like the look my truck has. I don't think mine ever had silver on it anywhere. Its a base model work truck with the black and gray bezels.

My wife goes to Hobby Lobby all the time. I may just have to get a stick of that and try it myself. Good info.
