48-52 F1 anyone tried 02-05 Crown Vic suspension

Question for everyone........ Anyone heard of or installed a 02-05 Ford Crown Vic Front suspension on a 48-52 F1? I know people have used Jag and Pinto. I have seen and researched those. Just thought I would ask about the Crown Vic. I can find the front suspension (rotor to rotor) for a few hundred dollars. I know it would take some fab work. It looks like in would install similar to the Jag.
Replacement parts would be easy to find and easy on the wallet.

Just thought I would ask. I am still in the planning stage.

Thanks,

Dave

It will work fine for the 53 and up years I believe, but it is way too wide for the pre53 trucks.

Anything can be made to work, but that doesn't mean it would look right. I am sure the more knowlegable will chime in.

Just to clarify, no one uses the Pinto suspension. A few have used the Mustang II variation of the Pinto suspension as it came from the factory, but it is not recommended and is weak. The aftermarket "Mustang II" or "MII" suspensions do not use original Mustang II parts, and are very stout.

There are many threads on here about alternative suspension, here is a write up on it.

Lightbulb Ever consider full frame?

I put my 50 F-1 on a full 79 Merc Cougar frame. It is wider than the front of the cab, but nothing a little fender notching covered by custom running boards wont fix! the wheel base is virtually the same and the track width is just a little wider bringing the wheels out to the fender-wells quite nicely. check up on it. 77-79 T-birds and Cougars were all the same & you can usually find them for pretty cheap (drove my fairly nice XR7 Cougar home for 700 bucks 20 years ago! lol!). I used A LOT of parts from the Cougar to include wiring. The trucks been on the road for 20 years since my father and I built it and i'm always doing something to it; just installed dome lights from door activated switches and existing wiring thanks to the Cougar!

Same: 1972/76 Torino/Ranchero/Montego/Thunderbird/Continental Mark IV ~ Same as: 1974/79 Cougar ~ Same as: 1977/79 Thunderbird/Continental Mark V/Ranchero/LTD II (not an LTD!).

1975/76 Thunderbird & 1975/79 Continental Mark IV & V have rear disc brakes.

2003/2011 Crown Vic's (2003/2010 Grand Marquis) have rack & pinion steering. 1979/2002's do not, have ancient (dates back to 1965) Ford integral P/S.

Ford confusion: IDIOTS renamed Torino as LTD II in 1977 (1977/79). New "downsized" LTD/Grand Marquis introduced in 1979.

LTD renamed Crown Vic in 1981, then IDIOTS introduced a new LTD mid size (Fox body) in 1983 (1983/86).

General public, indie body shops/garages didn't know one from another .. which was a FIASCO when they bought parts.

I don't have any digital pics since that would've been unheard of when we were putting her together. i'll have to scan some in, OR, she should be getting a new coat of paint here as soon as I can get my paint guy on board and the disassembly will expose what I think you'd be looking for. I'll be snapping pics along the way i'm sure.

Bill, curious so the steering box ran from 65 to 02? Or do you mean in design type? 79 and on back was rear steer as you know. Interesting info. Sorry for hijacking post that info from Bill peeked my interest as I like running the 80 - 98ish FOMOCO front suspensions clips
