It doesn't have to be cheap, just reasonable. If you haul parts back and forth for years and don't sell it means you're asking too much for it. I think a lot of the vendors use the swap meets to get away from their wives' with their buddy and drink beer.

I've sold once at Spring Jefferson, before they improved it, and it was a lot of work for a little profit. What the management of the fair grounds didn't get from me the state tried to get from me afterwards. I just broke even with the cost of my two spots and the state wanted me to fill out a tax form and pay taxes on the little bit of money I did make. I can see doing this for both Jefferson swap meets, Elkhorn and Iola. I know there are a lot of guys that vend at all of them with the same stuff.

That sounds awful if you aren't making any money. Drinking beer with the guys does sound like fun though.

Also, "Yes dear, I know you want all that junk gone. I spent the whole weekend at the swap meet and didn't sell anything. The economy just stinks. I'll try again at the next swap meet. You know it's tough and I don't like wasting a weekend away from you and the kids but Bill and Tom said they'd go with me again."

I can't imagine the state or the swap meet owners trying to collect a fee on anything sold??!! Is it on revenue or "profit"? How on earth could they expect to track what you sell? If a revenuer tried that here he'd be found floating down the Rio Grande riddled with lead

About a week or.so after.the meet I received a.letter from the state revenue.department asking that I file a declaration form on my sales and pay the appropriate amount of tax on sales I had at the meet. I called the state and told them very politely they were nuts because I didn't make anything, I barely broke even. The woman told not to worry because it was only a one time occurrence, they more interested in the professional vendors who travel from show to show. They send out the same form to anyone who buys a space at a market type event.

Same thing happened at the end of Daytona swap meet end of Nov. last yr.a rep of the meet came around & gave every vendor a goodie bag with a dash plaque , plastic souvenir cup and a Fla. sales tax form .My response was wtf is this . A vendor across the way told me to send them something .He has done the swap meet circuit for yrs . He said make it some thing like $8.48 . Not some round even # .I sent them $7.41 .
