Level Kit Questions
Hello all,
I recently traded in my 2001 F150 XLT 5.4L (no mods other than flowmaster) for a 2006 F150 XLT 5.4L. It looks great and now that I have a more stable career I'd like to do some mods. I've always like the leveled look, but am curious about the differences (if any) in the 2.5" and the 3" level kits. I do not intend to add anything to the rear. Is there any added rubber space w/ the extra .5"? Also, I'm new to lifts/levels so tire fits are foreign to me. What sizes typically fit without any shaving being needed on these pickups? Somewhere around a 33" tire would suit me best as I'm looking for a capable (I offroad when I get the urge), but also comfortable ride. Thanks!
Oh and I'm riding on the stock 18" wheels.

Well, I have a Daystar 2-1/2" lift on my 04 FX4, and when they wore out at around 50,000 mi, I replaced the factory 65's with Nitto Terra Grappler 295/70/18's (34-1/2") on the stock rims. The truck looks better, the "70" tread is only 1/4" narrower that the 65's, it only rubs at full turn...but they are noisy.

I got the Rancho quicklift struts on mine and they added a little over two inches. I also had the stock 18 and went to a 275/70/18 which is a 33 in tire. Here is a link to a tire size calculator:

Also I recommend the Cooper Discoverer AT3 for an aggressive all-terrain. I have them on my truck. They are made in USA, reasonable on price, and they have a much more open tread design than most all-terrain tires. They really are a good looking tire too. No noise on highway at all and they ride good. Here's a link to Cooper's site:

Finally here's a link to them on my truck:

Bigunit, thanks for the input! I have used the predecessor to the Cooper Discover AT3 a few times before, but have yet to look into the AT3's themself...looks good though. That size seems to fit perfectly. After measuring my truck I found that I'm 2.125" from level....so a 2" level or readylift should do the trick. Maybe one day I'll get into some new wheels and bigger tires, but for now I want to keep it somewhat modest.
