Thumbs down HyperTech programers no good on V-10

If you are looking for increased performance for your V-10 do NOT buy Hypertech programmers.
Especially if you have a cat Back exhaust system and or a cold air intake.
And if you tow heavy loads in the Mountains such as Oregon like I do.
I had a lot of problems with mine and finally returned to stock settings.
A free flowing exhaust and cold air intakes lean the engine out and Hypertech uses a car like tune, which leans the motor out even further.
This created pre detonation spark knock (which if bad enough can burn holes in the tops of pistons) while I was towing heavy up long steep hills. I re programmed it to the regular setting, but the timing curve was still to aggressive for towing up steep grades it still pinged badly. I was using Premium fuel the whole time.
I actually lost towing power with Hypertech, regardless of what setting I used. I have had it over 30 days so they will not refund my purchase price either, so much for their products and customer service.
I spoke to their tech guys, and he convinced me it was a good tune for a car, and I tried to convince him it was a horrible tune for a truck while towing.
My truck was already lean and Hypertech made it worse, I thought they would have a provision to Rich-en up the fuel ratio for such obvious conditions, But they do not.
Do Not buy trouble guys, thats all Hypertech was for me. Since they wont refund my cost, Id like to sell it, but in all good conscience, I would not feel right selling my Hypetech problems to someone else.
I thought a programmer would be more programmable, but its not much better that a pre programmed chip. IN this case the program was a very bad fit for the application. they just pre set the tune for a car like application ignoring what trucks do in reality.
Stay away for Hypertech. Its all hype and ill fitting tech.

Certain tunes require premium fuel, so you may try that. However, Mike at 5 Star tuning works wonders for the V10 and most of Ford's other gas motors.

I think I might have asked the technical representative to point out which "car" in the Ford lineup came with a V-10.

He was referring to the car like tune you stated the rep told you. As for a programmer, if you don't use Mike, then you may as well keep throwing money away. His tunes will wake up the V10, no matter the year. Just don't expect any mpg gains, the BSEG wipes those away very quickly.
