NC Laws on exhaust turndowns; please help!!!
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger and looking to put a flowmaster 40 series on it that already has turndowns on it. Wanted to know if it was legal because from what i thought i knew i thought that it was legal as long as it was behind passenger seats.
Does anyone know the exact law?

There seems to be a lot of gray area surrounding exhausts.
Check out: ncleg.net Then do a search for exhausts or mufflers. Plenty of info to read.
I'd call an nc inspection station and see what they said about it. (Unfortunately some of those places don't hire the most knowledgable folks so use your best judgement)
I would also call Bob's muffler shop in Raleigh/Garner. They are good folks and should know what you can and can't get away with.

***I assume you are talking about bringing the pipes out the side in front of the back wheels?**
Calling WP to the courtesy phone, what are your thoughts/understanding on exhaust placement?

I am talking about having no pipe at all just turndowns. Well i called the state office today and they said(if i remember correctly) that it was a very grey area but from what he saw that the state inspectors would more than not, not pass it. But i do know that if you find someone local that you are in good touch with that as long as it was "legal" enough that they would pass it. It just depends on who looks at it.
