Battery light keeps coming on
#17
What are the signs an alternator is going out? I noticed back in the winter my lights would brighten a bit if I reved it up. Been a bit skeptical about the charging gauge readings and now the gauge is not showing charging and the lights getting dim.
Is the whole unit dead or would it just need a new rectifier on it?
Should I replace my half crushed wiring assembly on the top?
Any recommendations for a new alternator brand?
Too late to work on it tonight so looking for a place to start this afternoon.

When mine went bad last fall, it was scalding hot to the touch and just quit charging. I ran off the batteries for about 5 miles until I got to a parts store. I bought a Napa stock one, you may or may not have to change the pulley. We did have to on mine but the Napa I was at was kind enough to do that for me. I know there's after market ones as well. Also check your batteries make sure they're up to snuff. Also check and see what voltage the alt is putting out at Idle.

Forgot I posted this here . Update , my alternator was kaput. In a bind and out of convenience I put in an Advanced Auto alt. Crossing my fingers but so far so good.
I had also noticed my connections were corroded bad and loose. Would that of caused the old alt to burn out trying to charge something not able to charge correctly?
I re-cut the ends of the cables and tightened everything back up. Got new factory cables going in soon.
