Holley 94 Fuel Fountain....again

Well, the truck has been running good. I'd had the chance to post pics of the fun places I've been, etc. And actually the truck is still running fine. Unfortunately once again I have fuel flowing freely out of the carb. Truck cranks instantly and runs super smooth. So it's not flooding. I rebuilt the carb less than a year ago and all has been very good EXCEPT the dang fuel inlet on the top of the carb. I bought another top from a board member and have yet to use it because there were no problems. I did put a fitting from NAPA in the existing top thats on the truck back then and it seemed to be ok. But once again a CARB has ruined my driving. It's exactly why I swapped in a 5.0L mustang engine (read-FUEL INJECTION) in all but one of the many old Ford trucks I've had in the past. The one that I didn't swap, I sold. The top has been off this carb so many times working on the fuel inlet that the threads that were almost gone when I got the truck ARE gone now. So I ordered some helicoils today for that problem. I'll swap on the other top now that I think fuel is coming from the inlet again. And I don't mean slight leak.....I start the truck. It fires on the first hit and idles perfectly. I instantly jump out and look at the carb (hood open prior) and fuel is literally running down the entire front of the carb. I would say the typical "float stuck" but it isn't flooded. Just a little frustrated right now. I hate carburetors but this 94 seems so simple. Input would be great if anyone has any.
Thanks,
Wayne

I would suggest you use a magnifying glass under good light and look for casting cracks or etching. How much fuel pressure do you have? Stock pump or electric? Regulator in use?

It's a stock pump and carb. No regulator....no gauge. Runs like a top....until it catches on fire... lol.

I appreciate it. I'll be interested if the price is right.

I don't get it? You already have a spare top cover but haven't tried it?

This just happened. I can't try the other top until the helicoil kit comes in. I had to order it. First thing I did was grab some tools and start checking fasteners..... the top cover screws as I said above we're almost dead when I got the truck. So first things first..... fixing threads so I can even secure the other top.

I had a carb like yours, in that it always needed something. I played with it for years. Then I got sick of it, watched eBay and picked up a complete carb for $35. Freshened it, and IMMEDIATELY it felt like I'd bolted a supercharger on the engine. Conclusion, some carbs are not worth messing with.

Need to clean up a few of my threads....Most of you know I don't have internet at home and sometimes takes me a while to type more than a few words.

So the leak was in fact from the fuel line fitting at the carb. I had bought one of the fittings from NAPA that is oversized and has a nylon washer to seal it. The carb top was just too worn to take the fitting and even though it was as tight as I could get it and seated....it didn't last long. I put the other top on and so far no fuel fountain. So all is back to normal now. Time to tackle some other project. Thanks for the replies fellas!
