I have been considering a tune also but I worry about voiding the warranty.
Has anyone had issues with Ford covering the warranty if they know the truck is tuned?

Unloaded my 5 Star tune last week for a trip to the dealer. They reflashed the computer for the tranny flare issue, never said a word about my tuner. I'll also say I didh't realize just what a difference it made until I drove it for a couple days without it!! Even pulled the boat (12,000 lbs) just to see. The Tune was re-loaded as soon as I got back home!!

Until there is a problem with the engine or transmission, then Ford can look at the software and see that it was tuned in the past history. Then, you may not get warranty coverage.

Right, you gotta pay to play. The tuner makes the truck even more awesome than it already is. If it breaks and Ford says your tuner is the reason, then either get a lawyer or buy (insert list of broken parts). Ford can tell if your truck has been tuned, even after returning it to stock.

A tuner is very likely in my future. Of the many posts I have read regarding this issue I do not recall ever reading one where there was a warranty problem, particularly relating to a tranny issue, on a tuned truck. This kind of makes me wonder that a tuner will perhaps prevent such issues, who is to say. From all accounts these trucks run better tuned thru the entire rpm band. I am willing to play......

I am willing to take a chance with my 6.2L with a tune but when I had my 08 F350 with the 6.4L diesel I was not willing to take the risk and I am glad I didn't as my engine was rebuilt at 15K miles and if I had a tune I would have been SOL. I did have more power than I ever needed with that truck, I think it was faster than my current truck but I am very happy with my choice, just wish for the same mpg's every one is claiming, I am up to 11.6mpg with 1800 miles on truck.

I don't think the tunes on gassers adds enough torque and hp to break things like a diesel does, you can add gains in the 100's with tunes for those.

I was one of those claiming great gas mileage and all of sudden I am getting between 11 and 12 where I used to get 14-16. I hope it's just bad gas. However I have noticed this for the last 3 tank fulls and I am at 3600 miles now. I have read here on FTE that some have gotten the truck reflashed and then started getting better mpg.. Good luck, maybe something will change at 5K or 10K.. There have been post where guys have seen some improvements at that mileage.

you could always disconnect the battery for 20 mins or so, then the truck will go through the re-learn procedure. might help if you are seeing a decrease in mileage.

I have recorded every fill up since new with the Gas Cubby app, here is what I have so far. Lots of towing and only a couple of tanks of gas with no towing.

You can see the peaks in the 14 mpg are no towing on that tank, in the middle range some towing on that tank of gas and the bottom numbers in 9 to 8 mpg range are all towing on that tank of gas:

To recap I'm seeing:

mid 14's on my drive to work, country roads 55 mph or less.
Towing my 5900 lb travel trailer (fairly high profile) 9 mpg towing at 65 mph on interstate no wind, can go down to 8 in a good headwind.

Here is a thread where the lead engineer of this engine talks about it's rpm horsepower design. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...as-engine.html
The design goes back to the Boss days of large bore/short stroke for higher RPM horepower hence my sig line

I've let mine sing at 5500 RPM's up a fairly long and steep grade hauling 8000 pounds. This was around 6000 foot altitude on a 98 degree afternoon and the temp gauges never buged.

Best bang for the buck will be a remap BUT its not for everyone for sure. There is a reason we buy $45k trucks so we dont have any issues when developing maps...( own and use what you sell is my motto) many many things you dont try to out smart Ford on too, you just leave some things alone in the pcm.

Mike, I really like this truck and am on the edge of ordering your tuner and CAI combo. One of the things I'm not happy with is the factory programs reluctance to down shift. The Boss 6.2L likes RPM's and I have to monitor my speed on cruise in tow/haul or not and if I see the speed drop even the slightest bit I throw and override at it and force the down shift my self before loosing 3 mph. Do you address this?

ATP Pilot, I did what you suggested with the battery and so far it has worked. I am now getting 11-12 in town, previously 9-10. I have not been out on the open road yet. I am sure that it will be back to 15-16 when I do. Thanks for the advice.

We have a 13 Newmar MH and we pull a aluminum trailer with a 13 Escape four by four titanium 2.0 Ecoboost on it. It has the V10 Ford 6.8 and I did the five star tune at about 2K miles. Worth every penny. More power and better shift points. We also have a 08 F350 with the V10 and I haven't done a tune yet on it. I just got a 13 F250 with the 6.2 and only have 900 miles on it. Haven't pulled anything with it yet. Ford should have stayed with the V10 in the superduty line as it has more torque for towing. The 6.2 is only getting about 10 mpg empty, the same as the V10. Both trucks have the 4.30 gears and the 08 has the five speed with the V10 as does the 13 MH with the V10. The 13 F250 has the six speed which is about the only thing it has going for it. The select shift is nice and would really help in the 13 MH with the V10 but Ford has not went to that yet. I have a 14 Shelby Raptor on order with the 6.2 with a Whipple super charger with 575 HP and over 500 FPT. Should be a nice toy. It comes tuned and all. I never worry about warranty as nothing serious ever breaks and we have about 12 Fords on the road. And never buy that extended warranty crap as it is a joke. And the motor home rig weighs right at 25K pounds and has 5.38 gears in it. With the five star tune it is a towing monster. 75 or 80 no sweat if you like. Hard to keep it under 75 which is about 3K on the tach and where the V10 likes to run and pull. 5 to 8 mpg depending on wind and conditions. 90 gallon tank so who cares. Though about ordering a diesel F250 but the puny 25 gallon fuel tank was a deal breaker for me. You get a 35 gallon on the gasser so I went gas. It's a sad day for Ford that the F150 trucks all get a 36 gallon tank and you only get 25 gallon on a short bed diesel. Their engineers need to get off the golf course and get back to work.
